By Staff Reports The Chronicle Hoping to regroup after a tough stretch to close out 2009, Carolina Forest High School came ready to wrestle Saturday in the annual Panther Duals. Ten teams hit the mats for the annual tournament, hosted by Carolina Forest. After suffering another tough loss to North Myrtle Beach to open the duals, the Panthers rallied against Waccamaw, sweeping the Warriors in almost every match. CFHS wrestler Rob Spallone said the holiday break helped him regroup before retuning to wrestling in 2010. Late in 2009, Spallone's weight climbed, forcing him to compete in the 152 pound division. In 2008, he qualified for the state meet at 135 pounds. On Saturday, he competed at 145 pounds. "I actually went down in weight class," said CFHS wrestler Rob Spallone. "It (the break) gave me a little time to watch my weight a little bit." Fellow teammate Eric Connell, also ranked in the Top 5 in S.C., said he's looking forward to what 2010 will bring. "I'd like to make it back to states and maybe break 100 wins," Connell said. Read more on the Panther Duals in the Jan. 7 edition of the Carolina Forest Chronicle.
